In a joint report released on Tuesday, the Information Technology Organization of Iran and the Statistical Center of Iran announced that around twenty-six million Iranians from the age of 6 years old and above do not utilize the internet.
The report said that about 11.864 million of them are men whereas the rest are women. Around 18.307 million people of Iran said that they do not require the internet technology.
More than seven million people are not making use of the internet as they lack knowledge, information and the skills or self-confidence. Furthermore, over 3.5 million Iranian are not using the internet because of its high cost. The report also said that 1.3 million people refuse to use internet because of privacy concerns.
The statistics show that around 1.250 million people are deprived of internet facilities in their cities or villages whereas 1.769 million of them don’t use it because of cultural reasons that include immoral contents, says the report.
Meanwhile, 7.632 million Iranians have zero knowledge regarding the internet and around 7.936 million are illiterate for utilizing the internet technology.
A total of 2.709 million people in Iran are not using the internet as they are not permission to use it. The report added that about 1.231 million Iranians are of the view that there are no good contents or services available on internet.
The statistics show that 59,249 of them cannot use internet because of their physical disabilities.
According to another report which was released in late July by the Information Technology Organization of Iran, the highest internet penetration rate was amongst the students being 89.6 percent.
According to the report, about 36.5 percent of the users of internet are employed individuals, 26.7 per cent of them are housekeepers, 23.8% are students, and roughly 6.3% are unemployed individuals.
